Secure Gateway Module Bypass – Chrysler

39.99

The FCA 12+8 Bypass Cable is a specialized physical bridge that connects directly to your vehicle’s internal CAN-bus wiring harness, bypassing the Security Gateway Module (SGW). Without this adapter, aftermarket diagnostic tools are restricted to basic read-only functions (like checking VIN or reading codes). By physically plugging this cable into the SGW harness—located behind the glove box, center console, or radio—you unlock full dealer-level diagnostic capabilities, including active tests, bi-directional control, ECU programming, and deep-system sensor calibration on vehicles from 2018 to 2021.

Bridging the Gateway

Automotive security is a necessary evolution, but it often creates a bottleneck for independent repair shops. The FCA Security Gateway Module uses an encryption algorithm to isolate diagnostic requests. If you connect a standard OBD2 scanner without this cable (and without an active AutoAuth subscription), you will likely receive a “Device unable to communicate” error when attempting to clear codes, reset an oil light, or perform a transmission adaptation.

This cable doesn’t “hack” the software; it provides a physical path to the vehicle’s private network, allowing your scanner to talk directly to modules like the ABS, Airbag, Body Control (BCM), and Transmission (TCU) as if it were a factory-authorized scan tool.

Key Technical Pillars & Semantic Entities:

  • The “12+8” Physical Interface: The cable features two specific connectors—a 12-pin and an 8-pin—that plug into the factory SGW harness. It then provides a standard female 16-pin OBD2 port for your scanner to plug into.

  • Bi-Directional Freedom: Essential for active actuator tests, such as cycling ABS pumps, triggering fuel injectors, or performing DPF regenerations that require full write-access to the ECU.

  • Universal Tool Compatibility: This is a “dumb” physical bridge, meaning it is compatible with almost all professional diagnostic scanners (Autel, Launch, Topdon, etc.) that have FCA coverage in their software.

  • Non-Destructive Installation: It is a reversible process. You unplug the factory harness from the SGW, plug in the adapter, perform your diagnostic work, and then reconnect the factory harness.

Compatibility & Technical Specs

Feature Specification
Connector Type FCA 12-pin + 8-pin to standard 16-pin OBD2
Vehicle Coverage Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Maserati
Model Years Primarily 2018–2021 (Some 2017 models included)
Primary Location Behind glove box, passenger kick panel, or infotainment unit
Requirement Necessary for bi-directional control/programming

Technician’s Note: Note that on many 2021+ models, the Security Gateway functionality has been integrated directly into the BCM (Body Control Module), and a physical bypass cable may not work. Always verify if your specific vehicle year relies on a standalone SGW module or an integrated BCM before attempting to access the wiring harness.
